When Larry and Bill decided to move from a 5 piece “Moxie” band to a more manageable two-piece entity, “Moxie Boys”, we decided to use back-ground tracks to enhance our performance. Originally these tracks were recorded on Sony “mini-disks”. There was a lot of time taken to organize the songs in specific ‘set’ order per each gig, which meant re-recording the tracks in proper order – usually with several mini-disk cassettes. In addition, there was no ability to ensure that we were “in sync” with the music as there was no visible cue being presented.

Bill, operating his own software company by day and being very familiar with programming, came to the realization that he could create a custom software program to solve the needs of playing with background tracks. In the spring of 2009, Bill began to create the custom program, and by the summer of 2009, we had begun to implement it in our performances, and thus GiG Partner was born!

GiG Partner Design:

When originally designed, GiG Partner provided the Moxie Boys with …

·                    Ability to easily and quickly arrange timed sets

·                    Ability to quickly select a song to play out-of-sequence, or to ‘queue’ songs dynamically for requests

·                    Give visual ‘cues’ to song parts, as in “Start of Verse #2”, etc..

·                    Provide scrolling lyrics and chords as a back-up aid for new songs or songs not played in quite a while

·                    Allows you to program each song with it’s own characters, such as individual volume settings, etc..

GiG Partner was an immediate success for the Moxie Boys, but Bill still had bigger ideas …

Moxie Boys eventually expanded their equipment to include LED colored stage lighting and robotic moving head fixtures. Then Bill thought , rather than having to press buttons on a foot controller to manually change lighting scenes, why not let GiG Partner do it electronically? And so Bill went to work researching and programming, and a new version of GiG Partner was created!

This new version provided the ground-breaking ability to sync MIDI and DMX events to MP3 music and back-ground tracks. ( MIDI is the controlling language for electronic musical instruments and equipment such as mixers, keyboards, effects devices etc.. DMX  control is similar to MIDI but is used to control ‘intelligent’ lighting and effects devices.)

This new version of GiG Partner allowed Moxie Boys to perform larger venues with a light show and effects – all programmed automatically! Each song could have its own unique lighting show and colour patterns.  The result is a two-piece band with the entertainment features of a full-size professional concert.

Lyrics Partner:

Another form of GiG Partner was also created – Lyrics Partner. This product is designed for those one and two piece type entities which do NOT use background tracks. With Lyrics Partner, they get to eliminate the huge binder of songs that they usually track around from gig to gig. Instead, they bring a small lap-top (or new touch based PC pad) which has all of their chords and lyrics organized by Song Name, Artist, Genre etc.. They can organize set lists, or select songs on-the-fly. An optional foot pedal allows them to scroll the lyrics manually, or they can set an auto-scroll value for each song.

Both of these products, GiG Partner and Lyrics Partner, are just now available on Bill's internet web site at ...
